This site is extraordinary because the internal temperature is 37 C with 100% humidity, so, an hostile and very dangerous environment for human physiology.
To explore the Stufe di S. Calogero we are using the same techniques used in the cave of the giant crystals in Naica, Mexico: freezed respirators and iced overalls, but not only. The cave presents galleries and ambients wider than Naica, included some pits; one of them, 100 meters deep, was explored, to the limit of the human survival, for the first time in 1979 by Gherbaz from Trieste.
So we are perfectioning the staying techniques, using also other equipment that can guarantee a safe exploration, like a freezed tent (similar to a cooling station), that could also help the archeologists in the zone of the vases and, and the explorers in the deepest area.
But don't rush, this is only the beginning of a long and complex experiment. We will tell you the rest in the next report...after a while!
