Finally, the project restarted in 2009 with the exploration on the Akopan Tepui of the Resurgence Dal Cin, 3 km of large galleries, and later in 2010 with the discovery of the wonderful Cueva Guacamaya on the Auyan Tepui.
These are places that attract irresistibly and finally convinced us to set up a structured project that will surely continue in the years to come. The objective is to collect as much information as possible, with an approach of scientific exploration, about the geomorphological evolution of these mountains, considering the caves as a key to a secret guarded over millions of years. Many are the studies that we have started, from the geochemistry of waters, to the study of speleothems of opal, to the processes of arenizzation of quartzite, but also about the orographic raising of the Guayana Shield. All this is not focusing on just one system or tepui, but extending the comparison to the entire area, ranging from the Auyan Tepui, to the group of the Roraima, and also to Chimantha where colleagues of the Cheka Republic are conducting an interesting documentary work in caves now several kilometers long.
Are huge mountains where there will be to investigate for generations of cavers.
But are not the only, beyond these peaks known in the Gran Sabana other mountain massifs rise of which we know very little, like the Guaiquinima, or in the state of Amazonas, the Duida along with the massive companion Marahuaka. Tepui that are over 3000 meters in height and that represent without a trace of doubt the next frontier of caving in quartzitic rocks.
One step at a time we come to discover many aspects of the history of this land, but we will not do alone. In recent years we have been lucky enough to grow wonderful friendships in Venezuela and finally we were able to share these experiences with Venezuelan cavers, in particular with the Terafosa Exploring Team of Puerto Ordaz, but also with other fans of Santa Elena de Uayren.
A project then is twenty but that is expected to grow and continue in the coming years. The tepui are a magical place, a photoframe of earth's history having survived from the elements of the time. An irresistible charm, to which we could not escape.
